GuruGanesha Band and their Single "Troubled Times"

Even when we feel that we live in “Troubled Times,” we are People of Love. This is the message being shared by the master musicians who are part of the GuruGanesha Band, a fresh approach to mantra-based rock n’ roll. In order to inspire us to uplift ourselves in each other, they’ve released the new single “Troubled Times.” More than simply a social commentary, GuruGanesha says, “We decided that the song needed to speak directly to the frustration, pain and confusion that many of us in the United States are currently feeling. We also made certain that the second half of the song included a prayer and positive affirmation that we hope will be a forklift to listeners’ spirits.”

Many people know GuruGanesha Singh from his years playing music and singing with chant artist Snatam Kaur, as well as serving with her manager. He’s also an accomplished solo artist as well as the founder of Spirit Voyage Records. He met his spiritual teacher Yogi Bhajan in 1972 and from then on he combined his love of music with spiritual expression, a path that has had a positive ripple effect on today’s world.

GuruGanesha Band and their Single "Troubled Times"

The single “Troubled Times” began as GuruGanesha was with other band members; he says, ““One morning in February, GuruSangat, Sat Kartar and I were sitting at GuruSangat’s kitchen table in Brattleboro, VT sipping piping hot cups of Yogi Tea when we were moved to write some lyrics and melody to a beautiful new chord progression that Sat Kartar was strumming on his acoustic guitar.” They were watching the news and wanted to make a statement that would be a force for positive social change. GuruGansha says about the power of music, “Music brings people together in a big way. In the 1960s, music was the soundtrack for the movement. We are trying to do the same today—we hope to be part of this generation’s soundtrack that can create positive change in the world.” GuruSangat says, “Sometimes music can give voice to emotions to the unspoken feeling of generations.”

Now is the time for us to use our voices for unity, for connection, and to uplift our spirits. Listen to “Troubled Times” and stay tuned for the upcoming album People of Love and the GuruGanesha Band East Coast tour in Fall, 2017.
