Cool Calm and Collected – June Seasonal Treatments

Cool, Calm, and Collected

Water: It cleanses, hydrates, and reinvigorates us.  For these reasons, many spas incorporate the water element as a pre-spa ritual, a transition between treatments, an add-on to enhance relaxation, or the centerpiece of a spa experience. Celebrate water – plunge in and cool off in the warmer summer months.

Step Into Spring Body

Glen Ivy Hot Springs

Stepping into the lush grounds of Glen Ivy Hot Springs is like being in the tropics; surrounded by palms, soaring bamboo, and birds of paradise, the grounds bubble over with mineral spring water, lap pools, and mud baths. The onsite day spa features rejuvenating treatments like the “Step Into Spring Body.” After a gentle exfoliating scrub using Farm House Fresh’s Watermelon-Basil Vodkatini body scrub, you’re treated to a therapeutic massage using Body Bliss’s Strawberry Smash lotion. All products used are organic and rich with the scent of spring. After the treatment, a soak in the detoxifying mineral bath is a must. Note: As of July 1, this treatment will be tailored to summer.

Traditional Hammam/Oriental Bath

The Spa in Glendale

The Spa in Glendale is located in the Americana on Brand and within walking distance of Glendale Galleria. It is well-positioned should you wish to treat yourself to a pre- or post- retail therapy treatment. With temperatures rising, it’s invigorating to cool the body with a Traditional Hammam treatment. Using Guinot products, a kese – a fabric that feels like fine sandpaper – is used to cleanse and polish the skin as it sloughs away any excess dryness. Showered off, the skin is then moisturized with organic oils, leaving you feeling lighter and refreshed. Recommended: add on a Swedish massage to oxygenate the muscles before hitting the storefronts again. Your back will thank you for it. M.C.

45 min: $75; add on a 60 min Swedish massage for an extra $105

Oil and Water

Terranea Resort

Rancho Palos Verdes

Perched above the ocean in Rancho Palos Verdes, the setting of Terranea Resort offers a nurturing relationship with the element of water. While some may say oil and water don’t mix, the mineral and essential oil-rich laminaria oil used in this treatment is sourced from ocean seaweed, immersing the body in its balancing benefits. The rhythmic style of massage used here incorporates the lyrical movements of the therapist’s hands to create the sensation of floating in warm water, bathed by waves. The experience of being deeply nourished by the sea continues with the sea salt scrub exfoliation and the subsequent Vichy shower rinse. The completion of a cold rub offers lasting invigoration, leaving you prepared to dive into the outdoor spa pool. F.T.

Vichy Shower Rain Therapy

Spa Montage at Montage Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills

Imagine being caught under a luxuriously warm sun shower that graduates into a shorter colder thunderstorm, then switches to a warm rain shower again. This is what it feels like to receive this hydrotherapy treatment known as Vichy Shower Rain Therapy. Lying face down on a massage table in one of the Spa Montage’s wet treatment rooms, your therapist will switch between hot and the cold sprays of multiple showerheads that run the length of your body. This technique detoxifies the body and reinvigorates the circulation system. Afterwards, you’ll feel reset. It’s a must-try for executives who need to refresh between meetings or it’s a revitalizing add-on after a massage. M.C.
