Their Perfect Home

Achieving Harmony in the City From Natural Heights

The vision: a home with a phenomenal view, peaceful yet close to the city, spacious enough to house three kids and four dogs, and host gatherings for extended family and friends. Enter: Encino. Here, homeowners Elaine and Dan were drawn to a serene setting — a beautiful open location with views of snowcapped mountains juxtaposed by a panoramic scene of the San Fernando Valley that mesmerizes at night with twinkling city lights. This was the balance they were seeking — the couple had found their home’s base.

Back in 2010, Elaine and Dan selected Structure Home to build their custom home from the ground up.  Developers of “Whole Lot Living”, Structure Home adopts a proactive approach that considers the entire property — the interior and exterior– in the planning and design phases. After months of pre-development, thorough property research by soil engineers and environmental consultants, and a process of hand deconstruction where usable materials were salvaged and unusable materials were removed or demolished, the building foundation was trenched and construction began.

Fast forward 18 months, and Elaine and Dan moved into their new home. Walls of glass, natural stone surfaces featuring Porcelanosa tile, high ceilings, and sweeping vistas fuse the home’s indoor and outdoor environments. The outdoor space features a dramatic fire pit, swimming pool, and an entertaining area outfitted with furniture by Tropitone; the extensive use of windows not only brings the view inside but maximizes the use of natural light.  Photovoltaic panels supply power to the home and pool and dramatically reduce energy consumption year round. Tankless water heaters, bamboo cabinetry and flooring, and tight high quality insulation further reduce the environmental footprint of the home and make it more sustainable than a home simply built to meet the code.

Elaine and Dan are at peace in Encino. Away from the frenetic pace, they are treated to 180 degree views of the sprawling Valley. From here, it’s not unusual to see hawks swooping through the sunlight filtered pine trees as storm clouds pass by at eye level. Living the high life has taken on a new perspective.
