Success and the Art of Letting Go

Success and the Art of Letting GoBeing a yogi in modern society is a tough gig. First off, you want to live a spiritual life, unencumbered by materialistic goals. At the same time, you want to succeed at your job and provide a better life for your family. Are such earthly goals inherently out of sync with spirituality?

Deepak Chopra says no. In his new film, “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success,” Chopra teaches the modern yogi that success is actually the most natural thing in the world.

In the film, Chopra defines success as the expansion of happiness. With the help of disciple Olivia Newton John, Chopra presents a series of laws designed to help us achieve this expansion. Overall, these laws ask that we surrender to life’s natural flow. Chopra’s philosophy refutes the Western idea that people must fight in order to get what they want. According to “The Seven Laws”, only when we are open and still, are we able to connect to our true creative purpose.

The film features calming shots of oceans and forests, harshly juxtaposed with anxiety-inducing shots of crowded freeways. Through such images, Chopra teaches the viewer how to see every experience as a gift, even if it is an unpleasant experience, like getting stuck in traffic. Everything life throws at you is natural; everything life throws at you is a message.
